About the author

I’ve been a registered dietitian (RD) for more than 30 years, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics and a Master of Science (MS) degree in nutrition.

My career as a registered dietitian has afforded me a variety of experiences – clinical assignments in cardiology and pediatrics, nutrition consultant, media spokesperson, health and nutrition writer, university instructor, corporate wellness seminar developer, and cookbook author.

I found my true passion when I began developing recipes. For nearly two decades, I wrote a weekly recipe and healthy living column for the Detroit Free Press, Michigan’s largest media company within the USA Today Network. My column, appearing both in print and online, allowed me to reach a vast audience with a simple message: good-for-you food should taste great.

Now, I’m bringing that passion for cooking, my love of food, and nutrition expertise to Recipes Made Healthy by Darlene Zimmerman, MS, RD.

What to expect?

As you cook your way through this site, you will find that healthy eating doesn’t mean sacrificing taste. I have combined my knowledge of nutrition and love of cooking to create recipes that are healthier, easy to make, affordable, and most importantly, taste great.

Because I want your time in the kitchen to be a success, the recipes on this site are tested, multiple times. If my taste testers aren’t happy with the result, it’s back to the drawing board.

With each recipe, you will find per serving nutrition information, the same information you get on food labels. I use the industry’s top choice for nutritional software to ensure the most accurate nutrient analysis.

You will also get a printer-friendly version of each recipe. I know it’s old school, but if you’re like me, having a printed copy for my recipe file is a must.

And while the focus of each post is all about the recipe, you will receive nutrition and health information from a qualified source, ingredient substitution tricks of the trade, and the latest news on food and cooking trends.
